Boiler servicing

A planned service gives an engineer the opportunity to assess the boiler and carry out the maintenance appropriate to its make and model. It is a different job from diagnosing a current breakdown or completing a landlord gas safety record.

Tell Jake when the boiler was last serviced and whether you have noticed changes in its behaviour. If the appliance is already losing pressure, displaying a fault code or failing to heat, explain this when booking so the enquiry can be treated as a fault as well as a maintenance request.

How Jake can help

  • Routine servicing enquiries for domestic gas boilers
  • Reviewing known issues alongside the service request
  • Discussing further work where the inspection identifies a problem

Plan around the appliance

Have the manufacturer and model ready, along with any service history or warranty documents. Maintenance requirements depend on the appliance; check the manufacturer’s instructions and warranty conditions rather than assuming that every boiler needs exactly the same work.

The boiler needs to be accessible. Let Jake know if it is inside a cupboard, in a loft or difficult to reach, and keep the area around it clear for the visit.

If something is already wrong

A service is not a promise that every existing fault will be repaired within the same visit. Describing symptoms in advance helps distinguish routine maintenance from diagnostic work, parts replacement or a separate repair.

Keep a note of any fault code, when the problem happens and whether both heating and hot water are affected. You do not need to remove the casing or carry out tests yourself.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Date of the last service, if known
  • Any fault codes or changes you have noticed

Your questions answered

Is servicing the same as a landlord gas safety check?

No. Tell Jake if you need both so the scope can be agreed. A landlord safety record and appliance maintenance serve different purposes.

Can you service a boiler with a fault?

Describe the fault first. Jake can discuss whether diagnosis or repair work needs to be arranged alongside the service.

Do I need my previous records?

They are helpful if available, but you can still enquire without them. State that the service history is unknown.
