Provide the exact hob model and explain whether the worktop is staying, being cut or being replaced. A similar-looking appliance may still require different clearances or changes to the connection.
How Jake can help
- New and replacement domestic gas hob enquiries
- Disconnecting an existing gas hob where agreed
- Planning the gas work around a kitchen refit
Worktop and appliance details
Share the product dimensions and installation information, plus photos of the existing hob and accessible space below it. Tell Jake about an oven, drawer or cupboard directly underneath.
Worktop alteration is a separate part of planning the job. Confirm who will prepare the opening and when it will be ready; do not assume cutting or carpentry is included in the gas installation.
When the kitchen layout changes
Moving the hob can mean altering pipework as well as changing the appliance. Explain the proposed position early and show the relationship to cupboards and other appliances.
If you are switching from gas to an electric hob, the gas supply may need to be made safe and capped. That is a different enquiry from connecting a new gas hob.
What to include in your enquiry
- New hob make/model and installation instructions
- Current worktop opening and planned alterations
- Photos above and below the existing hob where accessible
- Whether the gas appliance is being replaced or removed
Your questions answered
Will you enlarge the worktop opening?
Discuss this before booking. Worktop cutting and the gas installation need clear, separately agreed responsibilities.
What if I am changing to induction?
You can enquire about disconnecting the gas hob and capping the redundant supply. Electrical installation requirements should be arranged separately.
Can the hob move to an island?
Describe the proposed layout. The pipework route and full installation requirements need assessment first.
